  • Engagement derived from multiple acquisitions worth over $2B resulting in horizontal integration, new technologies, and new products and had global impact in multiple regions
  • Challenges included lack of understanding of cultural differences by managers worldwide, lack of experience managing virtually, and lack of involvement and accountability of program participants
  • US seen as “region centric” organization with regulatory differences and challenges in labour areas
  • We created global “language,” culture, and organization resulting in improvement of management skills and routines
  • Result was organizational change, and we led Applied Materials to become global organization rather than international organization
